We will be watching the flyover from the roof of the American History Museum on the mall, and will be at Udvar-Hazy on Saturday.

Myself and another friend are going to park our cars up in Bethesda and ride our bikes down the Capital Crescent Trail into D.C. I'm thinking we're going to set up shop in the neighborhood of the Roosevelt Bridge. We should be able to catch the planes as they make their left handed bank over the Lincoln Memorial and fly down the National Mall. Looks like it will be a great day in terms of weather for some plane-watching!

Arsenal of Democracy Flyover Announces Live Webcast
of Historic World War II Celebration

Washington, DC, May 1, 2015—The Arsenal of Democracy: World War II Victory
Capitol Flyover Executive Committee announced that the Flyover will be
streamed live on Friday, May 8, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The link for the live
webcast is http://www.usvets.tv/Events/ArsenalofDemocracy2015.aspx.

Two cameras will film the commemorative wreath-laying ceremony at the
National World War II Memorial, which begins at 10:30 a.m., and the Arsenal of
Democracy Flyover, which follows shortly afterward at 12:10 p.m., for the site.
The webcast will include the narration of the Flyover over the nation’s capital,
featuring key facts about the 15 historically sequenced formations of more than
50 vintage World War II aircraft and the important roles they played in winning
the war. It will allow residents in the Washington, DC area to listen to the Flyover
narration as they watch the planes fly along the National Mall, and allow citizens
from across the country to watch and celebrate this important anniversary.

Users can download high- or low-resolution video and audio, or an audio-only
feed from the site. Audio-only is highly recommended for those watching the
Flyover live from virtually anywhere in Washington, DC. Organizers of the event
are making the webcast available to provide better access and additional value to
this historic event.

“We are delighted to be able to share the Flyover with Americans all across the
country so that they can share in this historic event honoring our nation’s
heroes—both those who flew and fought in the war and those at home who
helped to build the airplanes, ships, and tanks that delivered our victory,” said
the Arsenal of Democracy Executive Committee. The Committee includes
Stephan C. Brown, President and CEO of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF);
Pete Bunce, President and CEO of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA);
John Cudahy, President of the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS);
Paul Rinaldi, President of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA);
and Doug Rozendaal of the Texas Flying Legends Museum.

“This live webcast will also allow those World War II veterans who are not able to come to
Washington, DC to be part of this event remembering their service and sacrifice, and will
provide an excellent educational opportunity for students who want to learn more about
U.S. and Allied efforts in the war,” the Executive Committee noted.

Local D.C. news outlets are saying the formation involves 56 planes. That's about a 20% attrition rate from the original announcement. I guess several of the operators crunched the numbers involved and realized that participation wasn't going to be feasible, and/or various maintenance issues cropped up. That's not meant to be a slam against those who withdrew as much as a nod to the reality of the tremendous expenses involved in operating a warbird. It is a tip of the hat for those who operate the 56 aircraft that are going to make tomorrow happen.

I live near the Manassas Regional Airport and watched Fifi fly over my house yesterday! You don't see that every day.

There's a B-24 and B-17 with her now. I'd love to watch them take off tomorrow. Can anyone give me an estimate of when the take-off time will be?

The site says 40 minutes before the flyover, so 11:30ish?

Can we leave politics out of this forum?

My brother works in the Mall area of DC for Uncle Sam and he seemed quite "Meh" about it. I asked why (he's a retired USAF LtCol and loves WW2 history) and he replied that the dedication of the USAF monument at the Pentagon was impressive enough for him, a timeline of just about everything the USAF ever flew that can fly today, including at least two F-4s. He was stationed at the Pentagon when it happened and saw that fly-over.
He also lives very close to Manassas and apparently isn't even going to drive over to an airport he could probably walk to if he had to. I can't believe someone with those opportunities wouldn't take the day off. He also drives past the Dulles annex for the NASM every day going to/from work and he never stops in. Man, I just don't get that!
