Need help with WWII Prop Hub ID

Mon Apr 20, 2015 7:38 am

Need some help with this propeller hub identification:
Image
It is 10.5" inches wide across the bottom and 11.5" inches tall. The only markings that I can find is a inspection mark: AK 138 or ^k 381 in circle on the bottom and a part number 5??770 (I can't make out the ??#).
This was found with a slew of other various WWII aircraft parts in a scrap yard. Could be U.S., but it also could be foreign made.
I've owned a C-45 prop hub...and it is MUCH bigger than that. I have also owned a B-24 prop hub and it is roughly the same size or bigger than that.
Can anyone tell me exactly what engine or aircraft this went to?
Thanks!

It is a propeller dome for a Hamilton-Standard prop. It contains the piston and cams used to change the blade pitch. It was used on many different airplanes, including B-24 and B-17. There are several different sizes depending on the specific model of prop it was installed on.....

Ok. Cool. So, I did a search on the Hamilton Standard Hydromatic Propeller, specific to this Propeller Dome, which is now the correct term I should be using. It would seem that Hamilton Standard Hydromatic Propeller was used on a slew of aircraft, but did they all use the same dome, just a different hub and blade assy?
