Something doesn't look right about the pulse jet engine.

Is this a large turbine model?

There is an article about this RC V-1, built for the Omaka "Classic Fighters" airshow, contained here: http://www.mams.org.nz/Newsletter/April ... letter.pdf

As I understand it, the Classic Fighters "prop department" also built some mock-up V-1's to be blown up in this weekend's airshow at Omaka - like the V-2 and Natter mock-ups they did in 2011 and 2013, respectfully, to serve as ground 'targets' and blown-up as the fighters strafe the field.

Story? The props team at Omaka are nuts!
I'm glad we got them to pose with it as they bought it in after Saturday's display.

The WW2 scenario started with the Anson bombing (with weighted cardboard bombs) a V-1 site, blowing one up. Then the flier launched (bungy-assist I think) straight into the wind. It is powered by 5(?) electric fans, RC-controlled, and did a couple of passes in front of the crowd. It kept low, and the Spitfires etc keep well clear.
Landed next to the launch rail, was carted off ready for Sunday.

Hopefully this pre-show TV clip is available outside NZ

That PDF linked to by JohnTerrell is good.
Can someone please confirm if the TV clip is viewable outside NZ?

I booked today today off work to recover, and start editing photos. I think the V-1 will be near the top of the editing pile :-)
I did get a few seconds of video of it landing on Sunday

There is a bunch more footage, and comments from one of the builders on the Wings Over NZ thread for the show.

It may not sound right and it's certainly not as fast, but it was a fantastic thing to see fly!! On Saturday they moved the launch ramp into wind...which meant, from where my friends and I (including ErrolC) were standing, it launched right at us! Spectacular! No photos from me, I'm afraid, as I only used my iPhone over the weekend.

Kudos to the team and I'm very excited to see how they improve the design for next time. It's quite an achievement and it was amazing to watch a V1 fly by followed by a (slightly higher-up) Spitfire!

Yes Zac, further tweaking would be fun!

I'm sorry Errol, but I'm afraid that's incorrect - according to news websites that's the Flug Werk 190 Exploding MID-AIR after a brake failure. :axe:

Watch the video on the explosion (Spitfire strafing a V-1)...

It was one of the V-1 mock-ups (not the flying RC version) that was blown up.

The "news websites" you looked at are exaggerating and using cheap theatrics to sell newspapers.

The FW-190 ground looped after a break failure.

Bent, but repairable:

Thanks Left Seat, I was there and am well aware of the circumstances  Just wanted to use Errol's brilliant photo in a humorous manner. I was standing next to him for 2/3 of the weekend! I was also in the Gold Pass grandstand for the final attack, and it was truly spectacular to see the Mk.IX "strafe" the V1 base to such effect. I was not, however, on the field for the FW190 routine and came back when it was sat on the field surrounded by emergency vehicles:

The local newspaper actually ran an article about the UK "news stories" about the 190: http://www.stuff.co.nz/marlborough-expr ... -headlines

The RC V-1 is cool, but, it needs a "pulse jet".

You need to turn the V-1 guys onto Bob Maddox:
