Cause of the accident was starboard brake failure, so not an undercarriage problem per say.
Anyway, onward and upward, had the V-1 flying today, and that is something you don't see everyday.

Seriously dude? Give it a rest on the butcher bird nonsense. We get it, you made your strange point. Sorry to hear about the mishap and best wishes getting her up and flying soon. Also sorry I wandered off a bit myself. Glad the pilot is OK.

If a brake fails on one side, with no warning, no way are you going to keep it straight. By the time you know about it, there's nothing you can do.

It's going to demonstrate the inherent directional instability of the conventional gear configuration. All by itself.

Thanks Dave, you, Ken, Paul, & Dave M2 have put this topic of this unfortunate accident in it's proper perspective! Thanks again, Tony

It was terrible to learn of this and see the pictures of the damaged aircraft yesterday (especially having seen it flying so much in recent days/weeks, leading up to this weekends Classic Fighters airshow). It is however fantastic that Frank Parker walked away uninjured.

I was rather recently surmising the current status of Flugwerk FW-190A's. The Flugwerk FW-190A N190DK owned by Dan Kirkland is very near completion to fly again, at Gosshawk, following a ground loop back in 2012, in which the aircraft was substantially damaged. The Flugwerk FW-190A N190BR that was owned by Bob Russell was repaired following a ground loop in 2010, and it has since been flying (recently purchased by Jerry Yagen). The Flugwerk FW-190A D-FWMV, which had to make a belly landing last July, is undergoing repairs to fly again. I haven't heard any recent word on the Flugwerk FW-190A N4190 owned by Don Hansen, which tipped onto its nose on landing roll-out last October, but I suspect it is receiving attention/repairs as well. The former French-based Flugwerk FW-190A F-AZZJ, which had to make an emergency ditching at sea back in 2010 following a prop failure, is currently in-store at MeierMotors, pending future attention. The completed/airworthy Flugwerk FW-190A D-FWJS is said to be in storage/not flown at Manching. The Tri-State Aviation Museum has a Flugwerk FW-190A they've been working on building for a number of years, registered as N190AF, in which they are in the process of modifying to fit an R-2800, like the Rudy Frasca example. There is also supposedly one nearing completion in Sweden. The Flugwerk FW-190A N190RF owned by Rudy Frasca, and N447FW owned by the Erickson Aircraft Collection (former Jerry Yagen), continue to fly on a regular basis. (All of this of course doesn't cover the Flugwerk D-variants, and there are supposedly a few more A-variant kits out there as well.)

The New Zealand example is powered by an ASh-82, as the Flugwerk kits were designed to use. The three-bladed props, made of wood, are manufactured by MT in Germany. All of the Flugwerk 190's have been flying with three-bladed props except for N190BR, owned by Jerry Yagen (formerly Bob Russell), which has a four-bladed prop and engine/cowl from a TU-2. The Rudy Frasca Flugwerk 190, powered by an R-2800, uses a three bladed prop assembly with cut-down metal blades from a C-46, profiled to resemble the original wartime German prop blades.

(Just as an example of how different one of these completed Flugwerk kits can be from one to the next, the Rudy Frasca example, in addition to the modified C-46 prop and R-2800 engine, has F-86 Sabre flap motors, a B-24 electric propeller governor, P-39 Airacobra brakes, and unique modifications to the gear system for better reliability.)

You've probably seen/thinking of the photo of N190BR from 2010, which ground-looped as well, which does have a four-bladed Russian prop (it is the only Flugwerk FW-190 that flies with a four-bladed prop, currently now owned by Jerry Yagen). As long as the aircraft, ZK-RFR, has been flying in New Zealand, including up to Friday, its had the three-blade MT-designed wood prop.

I was on the field at Omaka for all three days of the show, from 7am to 9pm or later....except for one hour on Friday, when Frank had the accident. I came back to my spot on the fence and everyone said "you missed all the excitement...".

I'm glad I missed it, sounds like a terrible thing to have witnessed. Folks said one of the prop blades flew up 100ft or more after impact. I was so relieved to hear Frank was ok - every time I saw him over the weekend he was cheerful and laughing - but disappointed as that morning was the first time I'd seen the machine in the flesh, and I was away when it flew. Everyone you spoke to had a different version of the aircraft's condition and "rebuildability", but it's not my place to speculate.

Disappointing, but it could have been much worse. Bravo Frank :drink3: , and my best to the owner who seemed to shrug it off when I saw someone pass on their sympathies to him.

And re: the prop? As of 8.20amish on Friday it had a three-blader!

Saw this photo on another forum. Beautiful airplane. I'm sure it will look this way again soon. Such beautiful country as well. I've done a bit of outdoors stuff over the years there. Wonderful place from one end to the other.

Those are some great shots guys.
Thanks.
Hey Zac, thanks for the report from the scene.
Always glad to hear that no one was hurt.
The rest of the Omaka show seemed like a world class success. Some really cool and fun looking features!
