I bit too. I figured it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. Here is a Navy drone in 1943 undergoing testing in Traverse City, MI.

Why April Fool? Archibald Low's flying bomb goes back to WWI and Queen Bee drones go back to the 1930s, so I'm sure the Japanese did work on these too.
So can anyone add anything of substance? It seems a topic worthy of discussion and not an April Fool's joke at all.
