I got the cutter today to face the mounting slots. Flat cutter of course with radiused tips so as not to have sharp corners. Next is to tool and make the attach lug and the steel bushings for the tips. Then these pieces will be complete.

Sweet.

If I lived in the States, Scott, I'd take a year off work so I could go & do an apprenticeship with you. Old world craftsmanship at it's finest. Thanks for taking the time to post.

So, the RH lever has this attach lug riveted to it. Seems simple but one side has a 2 degree taper to it. My plan is to press form it into the aluminum die I am machining. We'll see if I am successful.

Image

The slot is square to the block on one side and has a 2 degree taper to the other

Image

Shimmed the block in the vice to machine the 2 degree side. Well see if this works. Next is to press form the lug blank.

Nice little casting for the lower section. This will be very interesting. Again, lots of chips. It has some real interesting angles as well. Squared up the blanks on all six sides then laid out the primary view as my old brain really needs to keep a good handle on where the part lies in these blocks.

Had to flycut the extra stock off to set the first flange width.

Image

Next comes the Hog.

Image

Stepping the rough cuts up to the first flange. Then came in with the ball nose cutter and set the radius and the flange final thickness.

Image

It really helps my old brain to lay out the part to visualize where it is in the block.

Image

Next we will start on the opposite side to rough that in before we go to the 23 degree angle.

A little free hand shaping on the old mill trying to keep the old brain ahead of the old hands.

Next I have to redraw the print full scale in order to determine the dimensions not originally provided... :?

You'd love my CNC Mill! Good work on the manual mill, I'd probably take twice as long doing it that way these days!

Ha, for sure but then I'd have to be smarter and figure out how to support a Haas VF5 or the like. Too small potatoes here but this was only a couple hours. Probably take me that to program and run if I knew how. I like makin chips.

Meanwhile, back at the chip factory...more time needed on these before they are finished but getting closer and they are critical to the fit of the lower sections I am making.

More chips. One axis real normal, second axis is the "rub your belly and pat your head" approach. Manual feed where you try not to think but just use the Force. Will clean it up in another set up.

Oh for the 5 axis machine... :?

Yeah we only have 4 axis machines, a 5 axis would be the bees knees! Nice work, looking forward to the end result.

Only have to profile the one end and then drill the holes and chip making on these is complete.

Holding the 23 degree angle...
