Piper L-4 History?

Sat Jul 24, 2004 11:32 pm

Looking for information on restoring an L-4. Need help with researching AAF background or any other tidbits that might help.

I have some of the numbers:
NC 68925
Army Id 45-4962
Mfg serial no 13702
Engine No. T-028265
Ryukyus Command (maybe Okinawa)

Thanks,
Mike

Try the US Army Museum at Ft Rucker (I believe it's called the US Army Aviation Center where they keep the records -- at least it was 10 years ago).

I was trying to research the history of my dad's L-17 and they sent what they had.

From what they told me, there was no "master" record kept of where L-birds served during their lifetime. They were owned by particular units, and pretty freely transferred between them. The only records that those transfers and unit associations were kept in were the aircraft logbook.
