Apparently this Griffon Engine really was a barn find
Its for sale at ZAR 50 000 which is about USD 4500.
The seller seems not to know much about aircraft ..as per the advert...
There is nothing in SA that this could be fitted in to so its likely to end up in Baba's tractor or something.
So if you want to give it a go for it I am sure some of spares on the thing would be worth more than what is being asked

It's not Spitfire, the Griffon 58 was out of the Avro Shackleton as far as I know.

The South African Air Force museum has the last technically airworthy Shackleton in the world, they regularly haul it out and do engine run-ups. So yes, there is something local which may need this more than Baba's tractor.

Am well aware of the Shackelton but that has pristine working Griffons .. and precious little flying ours left on the airframe clock which is one of the reasons they only do ground runs

As weird as this is .. it seems that two Griffon engines have surfaced in SA within a week .. and they are located not far from each other... both barn finds (and confirmed that they are not the same ones)

For interest, I took this pic of the Shackelton in August 2006. Not its last flight but I dont think its flown too many times since then.
