I was too busy helping setup and running AIRSHO to get any pictures but here is a short recap. Most of the warbirds arrived late Thursday and Friday. Off the top of my head, here is what I remember flying: B-29, two B-17s, two B-25/PBJs, A-26, SB2C, two P-51s, P-40, several (6-7) AT-6/SNJs, three C-45/SNBs, two T-28As, PT-17, PT-19, PT-23, PT-26, N3N, about nine Tora Zeros, Vals and Kates, an L-39 and Randy Ball's MiG-17 show. Warbird acros were done by the P-51s and an AT-6.
Other performers included Kyle Franklin in Dracula, Andrew Wright in the Giles 202, Adam Baker in the Extra 330, Falcon Flight and the Flash Fire jet truck. We were short any Navy fighters, as they were to have come from our Southern California Wing but did not make it to the show. B-17 Texas Raiders had a starter problem on Sunday and missed the show that day but flew rides after the problem was resolved. We had a full pyro show in the warbird segment, too.
The weather dawned cool and overcast on Saturday but the ceilings were high enough, 1600-2000 feet, to start the show and skies went broken later during the show. Sunday dawned mostly clear and warmed up quickly with a steady southerly wind. We had an unusually large crowd on Sunday, probably due to the cooler temps on Saturday. We finished the Sunday show by 4 p.m. and then the winds picked up and we had a lot of dust. Monday continued very windy as we started to tear down and clean up from the show, and several planes elected to stay in the hangars until Tuesday when the winds were mostly calm. I helped launch several of them to head home or to their next destination. As of today, we still had one Tora Zero that I think will stay until it goes to the Wings Over Houston show the end of this month.
Initial numbers indicate it was a successful show and most folks I talked to were happy, including performers, members and the public. If I missed anyone, my apologies. A good and safe show. Hope to see you next year when AIRSHO in Midland, Tx will be put on entirely by and benefit the local High Sky Wing of the CAF. Hope you can make it. All the best.
