What sounded like something with a really badly running engine caught my attention but when I moved out in the open it was two Yaks. At least I think that's what they were. Low wing monoplanes with a round engine, straight wings and rounded tail. One was mostly white with red/black trim and the other was in that grayish blue/green Soviet camo.

Those birds are often on the west side of La Porte field parked by the FBO...haven't seen 'em lately, but I don't get by there alot and when I recently was..they weren't there....tho, the flying weather and time of day was very nice for a hop.

This little gem was doing a few touch and goes with the final approach right over the soccer game my son was playing in near Westfield Indiana. I'm not an expert, but it appears to be a Tiger Moth to me.

At Zeist in the Netherlands at 18.45 Central European Time I heard the ditinct sound of a piston engine and yes, when she came around the corner of my house it was a Spitfire!
Flying verry low from south to north in the direction of former Soesterberg airbase that is just a couple of miles from here.
It made a very slow right turn, thus nicely showing it's profile, which of course was umistakeable.

It most likely was the Spit Mk IX from the Dutch historical flight.
You can see that one here: http://www.skhv.nl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=61&Itemid=66&lang=en
In her current look she has round wingtips. And she sounds great!

We had two T-6's come through Elko this morning on their way to the races in Reno. Both out of Missouri. Sorry no pics. I work at the firehouse at the Elko airport and couldn't get a good shot with my phone. Man, did they sound awesome as they did their overhead break!!

At 14.45 CET in Zeist in the Netherlands I noticed a strange shape from my kitchen window.
Went outside and it turned out to be a PBY Catalina!
She was only about 750 meters away flying at 400 meters and the low rumble from her engines sounded great.

It was PH-PBY from Aviodrome Lelystad.
She did two very slow and wide circuits around my house thus circling our whole town of Zeist which took her about 5 minutes. The first time coming back she was no more then 500 meters away. After the second circle she turned back to the west where she came in from. Probably going to Rotterdam airport.

She was definitely not flying her regular weekend schedule (you can find that here: http://www.catalina-pby.nl/) because when she does that she comes nowhere near my house.
I will not mind at all if she does this again!

Diamond Lil! She was cruising around over the Plano/Frisco area about 4:45 PM. Seeing her definitely made my commute more bearable!

But wait! There's more!

About 6:45, I was out working in the shop when I heard that sound. I stepped outside and watched Lil fly by, westbound, presumably heading for home.

Twice in one day! Gotta love it! :supz:

Yep, saw her heading SW over Frisco around 2:15 PM as I was driving home yesterday. There was a storm cell over the Colony and she was staying just on the edges of it.

Good stuff!

Was working on the ramp at KBED yesterday when I heard a sadly not too familiar rumble in the air and looked up to see a twin Beech (Beech 18) flying overhead painted in prewar yellow and blue Army Air Corps colors.

Around noonish today, I saw a B-17 taking off from Houston Executive, then turn West, closely followed by the SB2-C. I saw this from home, a mile or so away, but could not identify the B-17. As for the Helldiver, I know it is a Confederate Air Force airplane. :drink3:

Both aircraft headed West, paralleling I-10

Saw the same two planes over Sealy somewhere around one. Could tell one was a 17 (Texas Raiders I would assume, and have heard it was going to San Antonio). Couldn't tell what the other plane was-thanks for the ID of it.

Yesterday in Hudson, MA noticed the B-24 Witchcraft and then a few minutes later the B-17 Nine-O-Nine. Always a thrill.
