800 Hz aircraft inverters/alternators

Fri Sep 05, 2014 11:20 am

A friend of mine that is into old smelly radios has a WW-2 Westinghouse GP-7 transmitter that uses 800 Hz AC power. He is looking for a power source.

Anyone have, or know where to find something like that?

The original 28VDC to 115 VAC 800 Hz inverter used with it was called an 800-1 inverter, and that there may have also been engine-driven 800 Hz alternators in some aircraft.

This is what the 800-1 looks like:

I understand that this setup might have been used on the PBY.

This stuff doesn't need to be airworthy, it is for bench running only.

Thanks!
