Hi - sorry if this is a duplicate of another thread, if so, would be happy if someone can point me to it.

Anyone know for certain what the status of the living history flight exemption is? Is the program gone, under review, or what? Have noticed a drop in the number of organizations offering rides, was curious if the Feds were responsible.

I talked to Ray Stinchcomb at OSH and he said that the LHFE program had been partially reinstated. This means that you can apply for the exemption for an aircraft type that has already been approved previously like a B-25, B-17 etc. They are not accepting applications for new types into the program at this point.

The renewals for existing exemption holders were always being renewed, so there has been no significant drop in the number of letter holders. There may be a couple that did not apply for renewal or had their letter not renewed for some other reason, but it was not directly associated with the "temporary" suspension of issuing new letters.

If that is the case, that is good news. It is at least a step forward.

Anyone still flying the UH-1 LHFs?

Taigh, is there a list of all the types currently in the program?

I hear that you can access the existing exemptions online but I have never tracked it down. Ken, would you have that link?

There is another group who is doing rides in the UH-1 and possibly the Cobra. They were at OSH recently with two UH-1's and two AH-1's all with cool history. Since EAA will not allow non EAA rides at OSH they were operating from Fondulac.

I have been selling/flying rides to the public for 20 plus years and I took my wife on a UH-1H ride with these guys years ago at Sun and Fun and I have to say that it was the best $60 I ever spent. People say the same about our rides in the Beech 18 but I would easily turn around and spend the same amount to go up in the Huey again as it was that much fun.

From both sides of the ride program Living History Flight Experience is outstanding and needs all of our continued support to keep it alive and well.

These are the Sky Soldiers http://www.armyav.org/ out of Georgia. They have a fleet of Hueys and Cobras, and all their airworthy examples have combat history in Vietnam. I rode in one of their Hueys 4 years ago and it was a blast. At TOM a couple of weeks ago they flew 77 flights in 2 Hueys and a Cobra in one day! They are a common site at southeast airshows, it's nice to see them getting out to other parts of the country.

I am not aware of an list of exemptions or exemption holders on the internet. The Automated exemption system is searchable if you have the name that the exemption is under (not always what you think) or the exemption number. Each organization has a different exemption number, so they can be a little difficult to find unless you know the exact name it was filed under. You can read the entire text of each exemption letter which gives the details about the aircraft it applies to, but it is not a quick and easy list. It would probably be easier to just list off the types on this thread as there can not be more than 12-15 different types.

Has a C-47 ever received one? We would need one to fly passengers in ours since it is experimental.
