73 years ago this month the decision to build the L Birds

Thu Aug 07, 2014 9:00 am

Summary of orders and letters defining the decision to build O-57, O-58 and O-59 aircraft to be included in the September 1941 Louisiana Manuevers. Also included is a mention of the contract to build the twenty O-58A aircraft to be delivered by November 1941.

The L Birds firmly established themselves during the September 1941 Louisiana Maneuvers and the rest is history. The L-4 went on to destroy more enemy troops, vehicles and material than any other tactical aircraft employed during WW II by the
US.

And it was all thanks to my very first flight instructor, William D. Strohmeier.

You were fortunate indeed to have him as an instructor.
