Sabre at auto show circa 1952

Mon Jun 16, 2014 1:17 pm

Found this interesting photo on the H.A.M.B. vintage shots thread:

Cars are 1952 model year but no info on where this was taken.
Oddly, the history on 47-626 on Baugher reads:
(47-)626 to reclamation in the Philippines 11 Apr 1951

Wonder what the story was?

If it really was scrapped in the PI before the photo was taken...Mock up?

Sadly Baugher's site is often the source of poorly-researched data, and this is a good example.

F-86A 47-626 was an ex-1st FG machine, retired 'project non-USAF' on July 21, 19l50. It was transferred to 111th BG(L) PA ANG at Philadelphia (probably the source of the erroneous 'PI' statement) on August 9, 1950 and declared Class 01-Z for ground instructional use. It was transferred to 103rd BS(L) PA ANG at Philadelphia on December 5 1950, and finally to 2750th ABW at Wright Patt in April 1951.

So what model year are those automobiles?
