Rain stopped about noon today in coastal Virginia, pretty good drenching early this morning, but as of 3:30pm local the skys are clearing and sun is coming out. Looks like the rain is done! Imagine it may be a bit soft in places, but the airstrip is crowned. Time to fly!

I got on the MAM website just now and the webcams are working and you can see views from all 6 cameras. Don't know if they will be on all day, just seen an aircraft land. Looks to be a beautiful day. Was there last year and best day was Friday, Sat was OK but the rain from Friday night softened the runway.

Good show Saturday. Weather was perfect. Similiar show to previous years, with great access to the aircraft befrore flying started at 1pm.
From my memory, may miss a few and order may not be exact:
Ju-52 para trooper drop. 4 jumpers in full german gear.
Then the flying began in groups of 3-5 aircraft each:
American trainers, stearman, ryan, snj, t-6
American liasion
European trainers/liasion: chippie, german etc
US attack/bombers: PBY, TBM, B-25
US Navy fighter: wildcat would not start, ad-4 skyraider, corsair (reluctant to start, barfed out a good amount of flaming fuel/oil that had to be extinquished on the tarmac)
Another ju-52 partrooper drop
US land based fighters: hawk p-36/75???, p-40, P-51D (Mr. Yagen flying)
Battle of britain/europe: hurricane, spitfire, yak-3 (Yak only flew briefly, maybe 5 minutes). Hurricane and spit were then joined by the Mosquito. Made 3-4 formation flyovers. Wind then shifted and all landed towards the east. Mossie made one "missed approach" and flew a low pass. Highlight of the show.
Reported the me-262 had radio failure and returned to Suffolk (she does not fly off the grass at the main museum). Scheduled to flyover on sunday.
Flying complete by @3:20pm.
No german fighters flew, 190's were in the hanger.
Well done by a great group of folks.

Correction to my above report, the "Hawk" was actually the newly arrived P-64 replica. Just completed. SNJ/Texan airframe as basis. Guess I wasn't paying enough attention to the narration, I was focused on the engine starts. It looks and sounds good- does not sound like a Texan as it has a 3 bladed prop.

I went back out Sunday to catch the end of the show from the parking lot hoping to catch the Me-262. I live 35 minutes away on an easy country drive. Too bad for me she came out earlier Sunday and I missed it. Did get to see the Mosquito again though, so there's that.

It looked to me like the Yak-3 had a gear issue. They only retracted about half way up and once the pilot realized this he immediately entered the landing pattern extened that gear and landed.
Speaking of landing, that plane lands HOT!! It was notably faster as it rolled past show center.
Another note on landings. I was the show on Saturday and I saw some of the very best landings anywhere!! You could almost see the tires dragging through the grass blades before actually settling down.
I have to say that the Mosquito is brilliant. There is no way they ever looked that well built new. The fit and finish of the parts and pieces is show car quality.
I thought that they were going to burn the starter on the Corsair up. I bet they cranked that thing for 20+ minutes. You could see the prop speed up as
some cylinders fired, then back to cranking speed. 
They did get it running and did a fine job with the show.
I hate that they can't fly down the runway, but I am guessing that the FAA rules dictate that since maybe they cannot fly far enough away from the crowd to maintain the minimum safety area?
I was spoiled by going to the first fund raiser show they had down there. They were raising money for Angel Flight??, the private pilots that fly military families to see their wounded soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. We were basically on the edge of the runway as they flew some of the planes. It made you want to duck we were so close, and they also did aerobatics, but not at ground level.

yeah 1/5, they cranked that Corsair forever. Glad they kept at it. Twice I saw flames belched out on the tarmac that had to be extinguished.
Did they even try to crank the Wildcat? I was down by the Spitfire and my view was blocked by the Skyraider and Corsair.
Agree on the landings. A grass strip is a fantastic place to watch the takeoff and landings, and I have not been to any airshow where you are so close to the strip. Great stuff.

My wife and I were there on Sat. Great show and the Mossie was worth the trip from Boston. Does anyone know who the 91 year old P-51 pilot was that Jerry gave a ride to after the show? Was he the same gentleman that was selling a book in the last hanger? I missed buying the book from him. After his flight, he had a smile from ear to ear.
Got to meet Wolfgang Czaia at Norfolk airport on Mon. morning. We chatted a bit waiting for our flight out. After hearing my wife and I talking about the show he said " Did you like the show?" I said I did but I missed the 262 on Sat. Well it turns out that he was flying the 262 for the show this weekend and had radio problems on Sat. Well that perked up my ears! A nice guy to chat with.

The vet's name was Jerry Yellin. He has a website that supports hit veteran's project (jerryyellin.com)
I helped him get strapped into and out of the Mustang on Sunday, and he had an ear to ear grin the whole time. He said it was his first Mustang flight in 68 years. He's quite the character!

Russ, thanks for the picutres of the Me-262. Looks almost like a shot from 1945!
I sadly missed her again this year. She had the radio problem Saturday, and I though I would outsmart things and go out late Sunday just to see her fly from the parking lot. I got there about 2:45 and learned she flew earlier in the Sunday program- drat- my brilliant plan was foiled.
