T-6G Engine Mount Overhaul

Hi there,
since our Engine is about to return from overhaul, does anyone has some advice on Overhauling the Engine Mount.
-striping the paint
-checking the Mount
-which paint to use later (Heat resitance ? )
-how to put back all the brackets and mounts in the right place

Most brackets have index screws to locate them or pick up multiple tubes and can only go in one way.

I would put screws in any holes and sandblast. I would be concerned that chemical strippers or water might get inside the tubing and result in corrosion.

Any paint should work because the mount doesn't get hot. The hottest thing in the engine mount area is probably the oil, and any quality enamel or polyurethane paint should withstand those temperatures. The Y-Drain mounts directly to the tubing I think, but the oil cooler and oil tank don't touch the mount directly. You also have oil cooler outlet air going into the mount area and if it isn't hot enough to vapor lock the fuel in the carburetor, it won't hurt the paint.

Powder coating will work, but the coating is so thick you might have trouble mounting the brackets onto the tubing.

Take a gazillion photos from every angle before you pull it apart. Should help putting it back together.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record the blueprints are available.
They show exactly where things go and lengths of the rods, ect.
Combine with photos are you have all you need.

I use polyurethane paints with etching primers typically.

After bead blasting-
I'd use a magnifying glass to examine all the welds and bends.
You can tap with a large washer on the lower portions in particular to see if there is differences in sound and if any6 areas give way due to rust.

Also the latest structural repair manual ( 1960s vintage) for the T-6 might have some items that cover this.

Know what you want and how you want to do it before you start. Have a plan and stick to it.

Thanks everybody for the inputs,
we have the Blueprints and all the manuals, but since this the first (and hopefully) the only Overhaul we need to do, we are happy to take advice from the guys who do it more often.
We are basically in the "before" stage and have a hell lot of respect tearing everything apart, since it worked fine before. But if you have a fresh engine you don´t want to put it in an engine mount which needs to be done in the next years as well, right?

And change the rubber cushions on the mount. Usually you can get them thru Sun Air or the engine O/H facility.
You were probably going to already.

Are there any more parts you know of that should be replaced while overhauling the Engine/Accessories and mount anyway?
