Central NY Airshow pics 1995 or so

Sat May 17, 2014 6:21 pm

HI Guys, Thought some of you might like some photos I recently tripped over. I used to volunteer with the Mid Atlantic Air Museum and was along to the Oswego air show in New York state probably 1995 or 1996. I'm not much of a photographer but some of the shots aren't too bad. I'd love to know where the planes are now. So first, I flew to Oswego on the MAAM's B-25 "Briefing Time" N9456Z.

And of course Briefing Time Taxi at Oswego before a display flight

The MAAM's P2V Neptune before heading home. I always thought the Toon looked better on the ground than it did in the air

Man, ol' Briefing Time looks like a pretty authentic restoration there ... surely it's not an actual time capsule? I'm not talking about the paint job either - even if I did know authentic paint when I saw it there's little chance I'd comment about here, lol (except to say of course the P-40 is in AVG markings... :hide:).

Very cool photos -- THANKS for posting!!

The plane restored as Briefing Time was produced too late to see combat but was then converted to a TB-25 and used by the Air Force. One of the B-25s then collected by Tallmantz for Catch-22 it was then purchased by Gene Fisher who restored it to the appearance of the WWII Briefing time. The sceme is very authentic and even the Nose Art is hand painted (not airbrushed, it makes a difference) and even inside a great deal of effort was made to restore it to the wartime appearance and equipment. Really a fine B-25

Thanks Tom. I was looking at the armor plate and original looking nacelles. The top turret looks complete, and the greenhouse up front is great too. Doesn't surprise me she looked as good inside as out. Sweet machine there, obviously! 8)

B-25's an all time favorite of mine.

That's Kittyhawk I AK940... a dear old friend. At the time you took this photo she was owned by Bill 'Doc' Anderson and part of the Geneseo outfit. Can't have been too long after this that she had an engine failure and Doc bellied her in... she then wound up changing hands a couple times and is now out West with Tony Banta after a total rebuild in New Zealand.

Anyhoo, you can see more about this Hawk on this page, and a second, linked at the bottom of the first page, from my website... which reminds me, I need to make some updates to both pages!

Thanks for sharing your stuff!

"Fuddy Duddy" and the ex-Bill Anderson P-40 were both at Chino a couple of weeks ago.

"Six Shooter" is also now based on the "left" coast and is a regular at Chino but was absent this year. Here's one from last year.

At one time, MAAM had 2 Neptunes. The one pictured above is the second Neptune, I believe now with Minden Air as their Tanker 48 (N4692A).

The other B-25 is still active with the Canadian Warplane heritage, The Corsair belonged to them at that time as well. The Corsair has now been restored in a fabulous Scheme out in Olympia Washington (I think that's right). The "interesting scheme" on the Corsair is that of Victoria cross recipient Robert Hampton Gray. These same colours are flown on a different Corsair now operated by Vintage Wings of Canada. The P-51 with the duck on the side got donated to a museum in England and has been retired.

Hope that helps.
