Whitey, that's an FAA regulation... and if I recall correctly, the Lancaster was "forced" to execute a missed approach pass and climb out. Three times. Ahem. :)

We are getting very excited- looks like rain on Friday but Saturday and Sunday are shaping up to be quite nice, according to the weather priests.

Lynn

Last year the rain saturated the grass strip and the grounds, so most of the heavier warbirds could not take off and land for most of Saturday and Sunday. One weather report I just looked at said to expect of 2 inches of rain in Virginia Beach on Friday. I hope this doesn't mean restricted flying for Saturday and Sunday. :(

Dennis, that's a good point, but we had a lot of rain last year leading up to the event itself; the deluge through the weekend obviously exacerbated the issues. It's hot and dry here right now and expected to remain so through late Thursday night, so the ground will likely soak up the rain expected on Friday as the front moves through, and the rest of the weekend looks very good with little to no precipitation in the forecast. With any luck, that front will move through quickly on Friday!

Cheers,

Lynn

Several of us are hoping the weather forecast for Friday is wrong.

Anyone out there know:
- if it is possible to get into the Me262 hangar at Suffolk airport on Friday or Monday for a few pictures?

- if there will be tours of the MAM storage buildings on Friday or Monday to see the MiG-3?

Thanks for any information provided

Now that the Fighter Factory is officially on the museum property they don't have any staff that I know of at the Suffolk hanger unless they are working on one of the planes that are still there. They have been moving as much as they can to the new facility. So most likely you would not get in out there on either day. As far as touring of the storage buildings that doesn't happen even for volunteers like myself, they don't like public knowledge of what parts they have on hand . Either case you could always contact the Fighter Factory to find out. They do have a Facebook page that is kept up by the head mechanic. https://www.facebook.com/FighterFactory

OK, the weather forecast looks good for this weekend- party sunny mid 70's!

Does anyone know:
Has the Mosquito flown this year yet?
When will the Lancaster arrive- Friday or Saturday?
Any other guests?

Really looking forward to it!

I would also like to know when the Lanc will arrive..........and if there will be any other guest warbirds.

I have it on good authority that the Lancaster will not be at the show this year :(

Bummer. Would appreciate any confirmation on that. They had planned to bring her down, wonder if the trip to England has their focus now? This would be the perfect time for a nice cross country practice. Pleeeaassseee. :D

Weather on Saturday and Sunday still looking perfect- low 70's. Some rain friday- but does not look like an all day drencher, maybe one inch.

Sorry I will re-phrase , the Lancaster will not be attending the show this year.
I was told why but will not post here as I feel that is up to CWH

Thank you fleet, I was not trying to doubt you, and I honor your word. Thank you for the clarification- just wanted to make sure it was more than a rumor. Understand not your place to say.

She will be missed, but as I have not seen the mossie fly yet, that is more then enough to get me off my duff. Really hope we can get a nice Merlin formation. Bring it on!!!

Unfortunately we weren't able to eliminate all of the pre-season maintenance kinks out of the Lancaster in time for Jerry's show. We might have it flying sometimes this weekend at the earliest. We were certainly looking forward to this show and hope the weather cooperates.

We too were looking forward to having you down here again- those "missed approaches" along Jerry's tree line were the best! Really hope you can bring her down again. All the best for your Eastwards trip!

Dang, what a downer that the Lancaster can't make it. Last time I saw her was up at Thunder Over Michigan 10(?) years ago. Love the way she sounds in full song!

At any rate, it appears that there are going to be a lot of us WIXers there. Any chance of us getting together for a much smaller version of the Oshkosh picture from a few years back  Always great to run into fellow warbird aficionados at various places around the country, so how about one of you locals tell us out of towners where we could meet and greet. One of ya'll could set up a tent for WIXers...free beer and brats...if you know the secret handshake or password...make the password Scott Rose :P
