Aircraft/Warbird Museums/Collections in Forth Worth/Dallas?

Dear All,

I have a Saturday to spend in Fort Worth/Dallas in October this year.

Which aircraft/warbird museums/collections are well worth a visit in this area?

I only know of the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.

Ehh, he was just trying to save time.

There's also the Perrin AFB museum up in Sherman/Denison as well if you've got time to go a bit out of the way and don't feel like trekking over to Ezell's.

October is a pretty good time to visit becuase almost everyone will have completed their airshow commitments and will have the planes all "in the barn" for winter maintenance, so you'll get to see just about everything.

You get a really nice spanning of time and interests within Dallas/Fort Worth with the 5 museums (soon to be 6). The CR Smith and Frontiers of Flight are "General Audience" museums, with CR focusing on the history of American Airlines and Frontiers of Flight being 75% aviation museum and 25% Southwest/Braniff museum. Cavanaugh has everything from WWI replicas up thru Vietnam and the Cold War, VFM has a selection similar, but also now houses the CAF's B-29 and B-24 in addition to hosting the B-26K (see Special K thread) and one of the CAF's A-26s. The D/FW Wing has several airplanes, but also has a nice little museum with some interesting artifacts as well. The CWAM museum focuses on the other side of the Iron Curtain, but also includes a few US/UN/NATO aircraft as well. If you ever wanted to see a Mi-24 up close, that's one of the few places you'll see truly living, breathing ones in the US.

I thought this was one of the nicest museums when I was TDY in Ft. Worth, Super, Super friendly folks who will walk you around and show you everything and let you get up close and personal with the stuff...

VFM and the Airpark are literally five minutes away from each other at the same airfield, so together they make for a nice "one stop" day of fun! VFM is mainly a WW2 themed museum, although we have aircraft up through Vietnam. The Airpark has a great collection of mainly jet aircraft from the Cold War to the present day (including an F-14 Tomcat).

Let me know when you're going to visit VFM and I'll try to be there to give you the grand tour.
