Most of us come here because we share an appreciation of things military aviation related. When I attended Technical College for my A&P license, they, like many community colleges, had ex-military aircraft for us to learn to work on. I recall a Cessna 310 Blue Canoe, Beech C-45, Hughes 269, and my favorite an L-19 still in Korean military colors. Interestingly a few years ago I saw that exact same aircraft at Oshkosh still in those colors! I was admiring and reminiscing when the owner walked up. We chatted a bit and when I mentioned I learned on one just like it he said not just like it, this is it! I missed the complete T-33’s when I was there, though we had all of the hydraulics to learn with (I found both of those airframes in a local junk yard years later with their wings chopped off but I wasn’t allowed to bring them home… :cry: )

We look for new, strange, old, common or just different warbirds. There are multiple registries, websites and blogs to help us learn and share this including sights with serial number lists. Another local SE Wisconsin Tech College is closing its aviation campus and selling (auctioning) off everything. Included are a few of these warbirds not listed anywhere I have looked. They include a 1954 Bell H-13G Sioux (S/N 52-7893), 1961 CT-39A Saberliner (S/N 61-0639), 1965 Beech T-42 (B55 Baron) (S/N 65-12702), 1968 Bell OH-58 Kiowa (S/N AE401493ABC ) that’s how its listed… and a 1970 Bell UH-1H Iroquois (S/N 70-16283). I had hoped to save the H-13, still in its Army paint, but the bid is higher than I can go. Just wanted to share this info with anyone interested. The auction website has quite a few photos of these birds, a few others, as well as support equipment.

I'll take the H-13!

I do wish more of the tech schools would sell off the more rare (or useable like Beavers) ex-military aircraft to get them into private (and flying) hands.

As I recall from the info by the engine it was for a Vietnam war era tank or tracked vehicle.

The UC-78 that Jack Kosko and his crew are restoring was a tech school bird. From what I recall, it was used from the 1950s onwards and discarded in the 1970s or early 80s. Someone purchased the bird from the school, but never had the time to get it back together. Jack went to Chicago and purchased the project.

Gear is up to $140 with four hours to go... I'm out :( . Hope some local museum can get it for a working display so I can come over and play with it...
Wonder if the Twin Beech will end up on a plinth in a miniature golf course or water park.

Lively Vo-Tech's A&P school at Tallahassee (FL) airport had two T-33s as late as the early 90s. One still had mostly its original USAF markings and mostly complete cockpits, the other was a gutted shell with the school's name painted down the side as a sign.
They're gone now and I've never found out whatever happened to them. There's still a twin beech there, marked as a C-45, I saw it just two days ago when I went back there for a wedding.

Hope whoever got the military choppers will be restoring them to fly; the auction didn't mention any restrictions.
At the prices they sold for, what do you guys think will happen to most of the airframes? The Twin Beech was pretty cheap at $7,250 compared to the others; must be some issues there...

They all needed to be completely gone over, what with many years of aspiring mechanics learning on them... The Beech was an ole Piedmont cargo plane. It had 2 different N numbers on the side and in the right light you could make out the faint Piedmont name. It had seen better days and the birds had a home in a few places. The data plate was missing from the UH-1. I hope the H-13 gets returned to the air as such and not just a Bell 47 (not that i don't appreciate them as well), what a time capsule to still have the paint from 1954.

Plus a 15% auction premium on those school lots.

The fan on the front of the engine is from a tank or other tracked vehicle application (LVT). The engine is a 250 HP Continental. It had a higher compression ratio than the aircraft engine and used cast instead of forged pistons. The crank snout was also shorter. Most of the other parts are the same as the aircraft engine.

Some of these were apparently spares sources for the Pasadena Police Department choppers. Wonder if the guy with the armament museum in El Monte is bidding on them?
