Not whining... (really... I'm not... ), but can anyone suggest why Yanks didn't push the YP-47M outside for pics as well?

We went through the Yanks museum on Friday and the YP is buried so deep in one of the hangars that they probably would have had to spend all weekend moving airplanes around to get it outside. That would be my guess as to why anyway.

Makes perfect sense...thank you, sir...nice to see all the Jugs that were sunning themselves for an admiring public.

I must say I like how Yanks' website describes the P-47 in general: Bodyguard to the bombers of the European Theater, the P-47 gave the Allies air superiority.

I did not see anything unexpected around Aero Trader or the old Tallichet hangars myself. I was looking forward to seeing the Lewis A-20 at Aero Trader and was not disappointed. The airplane looks spectacular but we were asked not to take any photographs so we didn't. I will certainly be anticipating the finished product!

Others may have been disappointed about aspects of the show, but as it was my first time, I was pretty chuffed. I'm afraid I don't have anything to add in the way of photos; thanks everyone for posting the awesome shots here.

I did run into Stewart Dawson and his wife. And saw Hinton Jr, though he was busy and I didn't get to actually meet him. All pretty cool stuff for a Chino kid wannabe like myself. Plus, nearly every plane there was either new to me or in a quantity that we never see flying back in OH.

Great show all told. I could do that every day.

This year's show was definitely down a bit in types and numbers but could hardly be called a dud by any stretch. I would have made the trip from Phoenix for just the four Thunderbolts alone! And I can't remember the last time Chino saw two B-17's. I had a great time and am already looking forward to next year.

Some things we have come to expect were missing. Nothing from Lewis. Croul sat this one out. Slattery's Tigercat is here, very nice. Regretted that the silver P-40B and the POF D4Y Judy are not to be seen, even on static. Sanders bailed, understandably.

I heard the the P-40C was being crated for her trip overseas to the Fighter Collection, Rod's P-47 had too many squawks and they had to stand down, the Judy was in the hanger on display.

Here are some pics. I have a lot that are just like those already posted, so these are some oddball subjects and angles.

A shop called Navion Customs occupies one of the former Tallichet areas and hosted a little fly-in to correspond with the show. There were a lot of nice Navions and quite a few projects to be seen. Here are some of them.













There were a couple more in the pattern and on the static ramp that I missed getting pics of. POF is restoring its Navion:



While we're in the POF hangar, their Zero is undergoing such a major overhaul that at first I thought it was a new project:



If you were inclined to go looking for DC-3/C-47s, there were seven to be found on the field. Here are six of them.

Somebody asked about the parts piles behind the hangars. Some over-the-fence shots.

This Skyraider from Sweden has been planted in this spot for a couple decades. SE-EBM, ex Royal Navy AEW.1 WT951.



B-29 or B-50 nose, fake Spitfire looking thing, fake P-40 looking thing, fake Zero looking thing.



Anyone know the ID of this PV-2?



Bolingbroke nose, don't know about the fuselage.

I noticed how, at rest, P-51 props tend to stop at the "X" position ...



Whereas P-47 ones tend to stop just shy of the "+" position. Useful info for a modeler.

Very nice pictures everyone! But I'm surprised, no Tillamook? Boy would they have made a big splash with the B-17, FW-190, and P-47!

Feedback? hmm! let's see the only feedback I can think of is Thanks again for another year of enjoyment. I think for some of us true warbird enthusiasts it can become quite easy to critique a show and find things to criticize. Some things justifiably so and some not so much, but of all the years I have driven or flown down to Chino for a show I have never left feeling disappointed, not by the weather, not by the participants, not by the people.

If you take the Chino show for what it IS as opposed to what it ISN'T you'll always enjoy the experience. I'm sure most of us here know just how intricate and detailed warbird shows can be and that any number of situations can crop up that prevents many things from happening the way the show organizers and we enthusiasts would like them to be.

Could there have been more participants (especially a few of the regular guys and groups we are used to seeing over the years?) sure! but IMHO I was completely satisfied with the aircraft that did show up for the show. The Chino folks never fail to achieve a level of quality and numbers that most other events cannot. I can't find anything to complain about when I get to stand and look at a P-47 (and other types I like) for a long as I wish. I guess in a perfect world I would have rather it been only me at the show and no one else. Ha! but that would have been boring after a few minutes. Not only do the airplanes make a show, but the people do too. I spent a lot of time observing the looks on people's faces as much as looking at the warbirds. It's nice to see people happy about something that's really neat. (even if many folks don't have a clue the difference between a B-25 and a B-17) lol

Another highlight of the trip to Chino was the pleasure to meet this fellow below, and his son Chris. This is Commander Cocks of VB-11, Air Group 11, USS Hornet 1944-45. Quite a decorated aviator, SBD / SB2C pilot and one heck of a great guy. 93 years young and still loves to drink a few beers. The look on his face when the POF SBD took off was priceless. Thanks to Tim Hampton and his camera crew for the nice welcome. I look forward to your documentary on CVG 11
