Don't know if this is known or not but, it seems N73716 is up for sale for $350,000. Doesn't seem that high considering it's only one of four.

Remember, rarity alone doesn't determine value, desirability does.
There are a lot of rare things because nobody wants them...so nobody saves/builds/restores them.

Still for a neat warbird, the price doesn't seem outrageous.

It's been for sale off and on for 10+ years. Probably a reason nobody has bought it. Hopefully this time around someone will see an opportunity to write a check and restore an interesting warbird.

I would think Kermit or Yagen would be first in line for this one. Would be also cool to see her go to a private pilot that would fly her often. Kind of like a family caravan instead of an Avenger.

When the P.O.F. example was flying there was a lot of interest and it was featured regularly in AIr Classics and other magazines. That was thirty years ago and it won't be flying again anytime soon. It is a forgotten type. There were several pre=war types, a few that made it into WW II as trainers that because none of them are flying have been lost in the minds of enthusiasts and historians. THe O-47. O-52 Owl, Stinson L-1, O-38. Many Air National Guard squadrons had these at one time. They are forgotten now .

From the old thread:

Some years ago, an 0-47 was pulled from the Holly Shelter swamp near Holly Ridge, NC. It was removed by the Marines as an exercise. Where it went , I'm not sure. IT did go to a museum, my guess it was Quantico.

Ed Maloney acquired that in trade and it is the basis for rebuilding the O-47 that bellied in and burned.
It is rough but mostly complete.

ID on this one is probably 38-295. Between accident-report.com, aviationarchaeology.com and the Baugher lists, I went through records of sixteen different O-47s that had accidents in NC during the war (a large number were based at Camp Davis and used as target tugs). 295 was the only accident that specified a belly landing in a swamp due to engine failure; the date was July 29, 1943. Anyone have a photo of this plane?

And if you'd like to have your own little piece of an O-47, our fellow WIXer Forgotten Field has this item:

Quote:
3630. Marked HAND HYD PUMP with the 25 number prefix as noted. The handle originally extended, and MIGHT be coaxed to return to function, but no guarantees.

WaltW on the Wreckchasing board has tentatively IDed it as an O-47 bit:
Quote:
3630 - If someone can check it for QA stamps I think they'll find North American. I think it's the cockpit hyd pump handle from an O-47. Norm Avery's NAA book Vol 1 has a pic of the left side of the cockpit which appears to show the top of this handle right next to the left side of the seat but any text on it is unreadable.
