Hi all,

It has been some time since I posed the question and I thought that maybe with all of the "new" and recent discoveries around the world. I thought perhaps now, may be a good time to bring up the topic of some obscure types of airframes. The Martin Maryland and Martin Baltimore bombers. Is there any example or pieces...susbtantive parts surviving of these types anywhere in the world at present ? Or has history relegated this example of aviation bomber history to just the pages of history.

Any thoughts ??

Paul

There was a post regarding Marylands & Baltimores a while ago on this forum. From everything I've read, the Maryland & Baltimore are extinct...no surviving examples are known to exist. Almost the entire production run of Marylands were lost in operational service.

There was a Baltimore given to a local trade school. It's no longer there, but IIRC, no one has any paperwork pertaining to its scrapping. I think Forgotten Field knows more about this bird than I do.

The last RAF Baltimore was thrown off the cliff at Malta (Hal Far?). I haven't been able to find out if the wreckage is still at the bottom.

There are rumors that there are substantially intact Marylands in the Libyan desert that had been lost in combat, etc. Given the hostile and transient nature of the Mideast, I doubt any kind of expeditions to find these planes will be mounted in the near future.

Yes, and there was Setters hint that there was a wreck in Thailand...but
he never mentioned whether it was a Maryland or Baltimore. Given the
location I would tend to think Baltimore. Somewhere I have a list of
aircraft types the French sent to Indochina, quite a motley bunch of mixed
types. I wonder if any Marylands or Baltimores ended up there?
