Hey Ryan:

If you are flying over practically weekly, give us some notice and we'll treat you to lunch.

That picture is the main hangar and not the museum (although the new museum expansion is going to be put there). We plan on moving most of the High Sky Wing and member-owned airplanes in there which will add about ten more to what is available for viewing.

Thanks Shep. I'd really like to do that, but it's pretty rare that we get to stop. I've been to Avion there a few times for fuel, but we usually try to get back airborne pretty quickly, and I'm always too late to get a taco (2:30-3:00 ish) I do always look for any "goodies" on the ramp and enjoy getting a glimpse of one of my favorite warbird spots.
I've been to the museum and it's nice, don't get me wrong, but I think of the hangar as the CAF, because that's where the flyable aircraft sit.

Ryan,

"Flyable" is a very loose term if you are referring to the CAF main hangar (Poli-K exception). Where you want to go, if you get the chance, is the Commemorative Center and go see the High Sky Wing aircraft. Heart and soul of the compound, in my opinion. Especially James Martin's SNB-5. Beautiful airplane.

And the list of 6 potential locations has now been reduced to 3:

· Dallas Executive Airport, Dallas, Texas

· Ellington Field Airport, Houston, Texas

· North Texas Regional Airport, Sherman/Dennison, Texas (Dallas Metropolitan)

Just pop your pop corn, get a cold drink and watch the fireworks begin!

So would the CAF move to California for $700K a year? Sounds like this all boils down to money.

And Midland is saying that the CAF move was supposed to be permanent? Isn't there a statute of limitations on verbal promises? Things do change over time after all. Sounds like that expectation was unrealistic at best.

So basically the staff wants all the perks of being a head honcho in the CAF, but without having the inconvenience of living in a backwater like Midland. Well too bad, but that kinda came with the job description.

So glad I quit after the Midland move - It was nothing but trouble then, and nothing but trouble now.

Had the CAF been closer to Dallas, I might have visited while on a business trip. Midland? Unlikely since it really isn't on the way to anywhere. I think Dallas would be a good move just for the exposure, if they can afford the move.

Still think Ellington would be a great place. Houston is a large city, near a major highway, and right next to a reasonable tourist attraction with the Johnson Space Center tours...
They still have joint airshows with the USAF and NASA there, right?
