WWII Museum in New Orleans w/ Pics

I had a chance to make a quick visit to the WWII Museum in New Orleans this past weekend. Here are some of the aircraft on display. There was also a ME109 (I think) hanging in another building that wasn't open yet. Very interesting museum, stop in if you get the chance.

Sad to see how shabby the airframes look already after just a few months hanging in the new wing.

Nice pics, thanks. No star on the underside of the wing of the B-25?

On the positive side of things, I for one am fine with the fiberglass mockups (Spitfire, Me-109, P-51). You all know how I feel about that Corsair. :-?

The other bummer is that the C-47 was flyable before she was acquired by the museum. The B-17 and B-25 both look like Week's B-26. What with the "sweating" and all.

When/where did they get that B-24 nose? That wasn't there the first (and only) time I was ever there in 2012...

Have they made any progress on the PT boat across the street? The retaining walls outside from the Normandy invasion alone are worth the drive not the mention the machine guns on displayed...

Yes. What is that, condensation from humidity? Plus everything got dusty pretty quick.

Nice photos, thanks. They have put together a nice collection of aeroplanes. Now if they could only convince the air force to give them the B-24 at Barksdale before it rots away. Not likely to happen but it would be a good thing.

I'm glad to see them hanging from the ceiling.
Maybe they will be above water the next time the flood waters come rushing in.

In lieu of the original, an accurate looking replica (as long as its labeled as such) is acceptable in my book. When a replica or original is incorrectly represented / configured, thats a problem.

Noooooo, that 24 needs to go north to Michigan to Willow Run where she was born. The WWII museum has a 24 nose which should suffice them for now.

Places like that (not exclusively aviation museums) are a good place for FSMs. Few will really care that they're not the "real deal"...and fewer will notice.

Look at the leading edge of the Spitfire wing....they better not be a real aircraft.

Sure looks a lot better when I went around 12 years ago before the expansion. Main airplane was a TBM mockup, and only a fair replica to put it politely.

So which ones here are real? Perhaps the spit is further back from the rails so it looks good from 30 feet away? The P-51 and the others look real.

Personally I dislike hanging airframes, but I understand space and potential flooding at least there are issues. Even with viewing ramps, some aircraft are just too high. The USMC museum at Quantico has a few hanging way too high- wish they had built in more floor space.

You'd love this museum, then. A lot of the stuff they have on display are replicas. I was extremely surprised to see how little of what must be a massive collection of WW2 is actually on display and how much stuff on display is replica...
