Very sadly the report of the crash is true. I heard it last night from a Breckenridge warbird community friend.

Reporter-News posted a single sentence article a few minutes ago: A Midland resident had just bought it and was getting familiar with its handling on a solo training flight when it crashed about 4 p.m.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Condolences to all affected.

Truly a sad day. Never knew him but it's just a tragic day when we loose another enthusiast that was capable of actually owning and operating one of these birds. Such a shame. My thoughts are with the family and friends.

Quick update... I had the honor of purchasing 13HP and it will remain in Texas. Nelson is in the final stages of going through the airplane and it should be transitioning to it's new home in Midland sometime in the next month or so.

Tragic in every sense. This poor fellow took the time and decency to post a few thoughtful words about the acquisition of this airplane, something he was not obligated to do. That alone showed class. Whatever sad events took place for this tragedy to occur make no difference other than for those who feel the need to understand and learn and perhaps a poor family who will need closure someday.

What truly does matter is that a life was lost once again far too soon and family and friends will once again grieve and ask questions why this had to happen. An airplane was lost that can be forgotten or replaced in time, a human being was lost that cannot be forgotten or replaced ever.

Whatever happened the answers will come. For now I shall take a minute to reflect on another pilot I never knew and never met, but feel a sense of brotherhood to that left our small community too soon.

Rest in Peace aviator

I can't find nothing at all, Airplane crashes hit the news with lightning speed and there is squat on any new site that i can find. I call BS!!

An FYI to all...cg51 was warned about this.
In the future please be more careful and sensitive with making statements like "... I call BS"
It's one thing to say that about a part or something but when the topic is potentially tragic it's inconsiderate.

I saw this a hour ago and refrained from posting but am still steamed.
There always seems to be a need here to post immediately about a crash
and I've never understood that. 421Son gets the prize has his first ever
post to report a fatal crash. He should go back to being a lurker. cg51 gets
the booby prize for going way beyond the boundaries of common sense and
respect. Believe it or not I know a few people named 'Ray' but still refrained
from soliciting the gory details. Show a little respect how bout!!
If you're unsure look at Lynn's post. Stand-up post by a stand-up guy!
Flame suit on...................................

Well said.
I've looked at a couple of West Texas news websites and learned a bit more about the man and his family. Its all very sad.

Having met Ray I am very saddened by his loss, he will be missed by all of the members of NATA that have met him.
