I'm thinking Mosquito, since at least two Mossies were sold fairly publicly in the early- to mid-80s (RS709 and RS712...and it can't have been much later than that VR796 was sold privately to Mr Jens, either). And more than one Mossie is potentially in a sale situation either now or very soon.

Process of elimination takes out plenty of major types, since so many rarities have been sold "on the open market" much more recently than 1984 or so. That would include multiples of both Me109 and Fw190, for instance, and also several F8Fs. F6F or Tempest, perhaps? When was the most recent sale of either of those types?

Platinum has said that is a fighter that will be listed. A couple of Hellcats have exchanged hands in the last 30 years, but none that I can think of were listed on the open market. They were all deals brokered between private parties.

I think Hellcat as well as I can't think of another fighter that hasn't been listed in the last 30 years, AND is rare and highly sought after. Some people think something Japanese, and while rare, I wouldn't say they are highly sought after unless you have a Zero, and even a couple of those have been listed since 1984. The highly sought after German airplanes would be the 109 and 190, but they have also been listed.

If it is a Hellcat, the obvious choices would be the project that Yanks Air Museum has been working on (most likely), Kalamazoo (unlikely because it tells more of a story for the museum, but they did sell the Tigercat and Bearcat), Palm Springs, or the Allied Fighters project.

Hm. Well I hope I'm wrong about the Mossie then, since only one of the three or four that could be sold right now is actually a fighter variant, Yagen's FB.26, and excuse me for being greedy but I want to see that one fly again!

K'zoo's F6F...sure would be nice to see that beauty aviating once more after so long grounded.

How about a Macchi 205V? Or...an F2G? Pretty much all the sales of those have been private...Maybe PoF's more or less complete Aichi D3A2, which was acquired via a trade around '84-85? Course that's not a fighter.

1) Emily flying boat as a couple came up for sale in the 1980's
2) Dornier flying boat, again a couple of ex Spanish Airforce types were offered for sale in the 80's.
3) A genuine Junkers Ju-52 , last one that changed hands was Martin Caidin's, 30 years ago.
4) Sunderland flying boat. There's one on the West Coast, maybe its in an estate now.
5) ME-110, a couple of projects were found in the 1980s.
6) B-24 Liberator, last sale I remember was Tallichet to Weeks.
7) Douglass B-18 Bolo. All of the survivors were traded to the U.S. govt. and so there aren't any flying on the U.S, registry or available for purchase.

General question....

When you are a large organization like Mr Yagen or any large internationally know museum or collector...is there any need to use a sales brooker?

I do understand if you are a private owner or buyer with limited means and exposure there are definitive advantages.

But when you are a well know organization with all the proper legal ressources and exposure to the market to sell or buy. Why use a brooker when you already know the potential buyers?

Hence me thinking that that this could be from a lesser known seller.....
