CWH Lancaster to get a new identity for a weekend

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere on WIX. The Canadian Warplane Heritage posted these plans January 10 that their Lancaster is going to look a little different next Father's day weekend.

Tickets go on sale & the official announcement for our 2014 Father's Day weekend will happen very shortly. In the meantime, we can let you know that for the Father's Day weekend only, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's Avro Lancaster will temporarily wear the markings of another 419 Squadron aircraft, "R" for Ropey (KB772, 66 missions) and will be flown with shark teeth on the Merlin cowlings.

Saw this a couple days ago. This makes me even more excited for my trip to Hamilton for the Father's Day weekend event. Between the new Lanc scheme and being able to see the new C-47 and Norseman, it's going to be a pretty good weekend.

As amazing an achievement keeping a Lancaster airworthy is, it will be great to see a different machine and crew represented.

The CWH are definitely doing it right these days. Little things like changing up the paint scheme attract a lot of attention. Norseman and a historical DC-3 on the way will make for a very exciting summer at Hamilton.

I will bet anyone here a 'fiver that AT LEAST ONE person will come up to the Lanc crew at a show and say, "What happened to that other Lancaster you guys had? The Mynarski one!"

I imagine that will depend on what the CWH is planning for Father's day weekend. I believe the deal before was that they would trade appearances at each others show. The Lancaster goes south and the Mosquito or B-17 came north but I am not sure if the CWH is planning a full-blown air show this year.

Father's Day Weekend 2014 - we have switched things up a bit this year and instead of one big event, we will be running two smaller events: SKYFEST & HAMILTON NIGHT AIRSHOW.

SKYFEST - Although not an airshow, there will be flying throughout the day featuring all of the Museum's flying aircraft as well as visiting aircraft including the T-28 Flying Horseman, B-24 Liberator and de Havilland Mosquito.

HAMILTON NIGHT AIRSHOW - An unmatched display of piloting skill, dazzling lights, pyrotechnics, smoke and fireworks plus an incredible barbeque will be featured at the 2014 version of the Hamilton Night Airshow.

What's interesting to note is that they are limiting the show to 2,000 tickets. I already went ahead and bought tickets and parking passes for each day just to be safe. Between the Mossie and other visiting aircraft, the new Lanc scheme and the new CWH aircraft it should be a fantastic weekend. I'm really looking forward to my first trip to Hamilton!

There is a nice large sign at Temora Aviation Museum, New South Wales with wartime photos of the scheme their Spitfire Mk VIII is painted in.

Likewise when Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, NZ had their Hurricane replica in 'US' colours (as for the Torch landings) there was appropriate signage.

Bought my tickets yesterday, one for each day. This is a wonderful idea that the CWH is undertaking and how great would it be if they did it annually recognizing, over time, each and every Canadian Lancaster Squadron that took part in WWII .
