WW2 combat aviator, Russell Johnson, passes away

So what did he fly? Anyone have any info on his combat assignments?

FYI Just saw his obit and says he was in the Air Force and was shot down over Phillipines and got purple heart, but not sure if he was a pilot or not. Weird that he was boirn a few miles from my hometown in Penna and never knew much about him!!!! Small world!! Clipper

New info claims he was a bombadier on a B-24 and he did lots of missions, was shot down over japanese territory and broke both ankles!!!
