(in no particular order) the 8 AF's "Big Week", D-Day, the invasion of the Marianas, Operation Market Garden, the invasion of the Philippines, the battle of Leyete Gulf, the liberation of Paris, the battle of the Falasie Gap, the 3rd Army's sweep across France, the Warsaw uprising, the Battle of the Bulge, the landing at Anzio, the battle at Monte Cassino, the liberation of Rome, the Marines land on Peleiu, Hitlers secret weapons strike London. I know there are many others but I thought this was a good start to get the conversation going.

and don't forget the great carnage of 100 years ago this year called The Great War. Military aviation as we know it started then..

Don't forget "Operation Bagration" the Red Army's summer offensive that started on June 22, 1944 (three years to the day from Barbarossa). It terms of numbers of men and length of frontline DDay paled in comparison. By the end of the operation German troops had been pushed almost completely off Russian soil.
