USS Enterprise on the Doolittle Raid

What role did the USS Enterprise play durng the Doolittle Raid? Were its planes to provide combat patrol over the USS Hornet as they got closer to Japan?

Correct Pat, with the B-25s lashed to the Hornet she would be helpless.
Enterprise screened her.

Thanks Owen. I assume the combat patrol wasnt necessary because the B-25's took of much sooner than planned.

I don't remember at what point from Japan it was,
but ENT maintained anti-sub patrol over the entire
force and there were "ready" fighters armed on the
flight deck.
