Here are a few pictures from my visiy to Mobile , there are a few from the USS ALABAMA museum and also from the Navy museum in Pensacola(well worth a visit !!!!)
The Crusader at Mobile has a hole in the nose that you cant see from my picture's this was caused by the SR-71 spearing it !!!!There were a couple of helicopters that were totalled , according to a guy from the museum the Panther and the Crusader are to go to Pensacola to be fixed.
Sorry if the pictures arent a good standard , my digital camera chose my holiday to act up!!!There are a lot more Pensacola pictures if anyone is interested

Yes they are dredging to try to correct the list , it was wierd cos while i was on the ship i could swear i could feel it moving .....

Would probably go and list the other way !!!!!Suprisingly the inside of those turrets had no room what so ever ...very cramped !

When planes sit outside (especially in a harsh/salt air environment) they are going to get destroyed. Those plane can be repaired, only to be torn up by the next hurricane. I've said it before: "Aircraft do not make suitable outdoor displays".............

the aircraft that were damaged were inside a hanger , if i remeber correctly i was told they had 13ft high swells because of the hurricane , unfortunetly the museum is right next to the sea...... was told by a member of the museum staff that if the swell's had come from a different direction the USS ALABAMA wold be parked on the interstate!!!!!!

The land the museum sits on is about 12-15ft above the normal tide level. They had 13ft swells on top of the extremely high tides. Mobile Bay is like an upside down funnel. All that water was pushed into the bay and stacked up. Good thing they aren't right on the Gulf or they would look like Biloxi.

Looks like the Alabama came through the storm fairly well, looks nice....I have heard since that the list has been corrected (tho a photo of her on the interstate WOULD have been interesting....how do you move a battleship back into the water?)....having been on the New Jersey up in Camden NJ this last summer, those gun turrets are basically the same and YES they are cramped....but it was a great couple of hours touring the ship and getting lost in the back end of it....I highly reccommend it to anyone with an interest in naval history...
