The holes look like snorkel pokes, consistent with the Midland ARFF using it for training.

The "snorkel" is the pointed tool at the end of the boom. The picture is not of one of Midland's trucks. :)

Ah, that makes sense. My first thought was that it was the CAF plane, but immediate post-crash pics seem to show more fire damage and more sheet metal crumpling on the extreme forward nose. Maybe the fire damage doesn't look as bad after the wreck has been sprayed a few (dozen) times.

Found it on the Google Earth satellite view of Midland Airport..definitely the same aircraft as the original pic, right down to the missing cockpit roof. The "snorkel" explanation makes sense. I was puzzled looking at the original pic..I couldn't figure out why someone would shoot so many holes in the fuselage but leave the windshields intact. When I was a kid we used to throw rocks or shoot BB guns at abandoned cars dumped in the woods, and the first thing we went for was the glass. :lol:
