OK, this airframe was repaired and returned to service? After the end of the war, when Europe must have been covered in little used C-47's someone authorized expenditure of time and funds to fix this one??? looks like it should have become some farmers garden shed.

"after the war...." you are correct, but this happened in AUG 44. The war in Europe didn't end til MAY 45. The repair work was completed in JAN 45. The war in Europe nearly went the other way in December...so not an outlandish expenditure for a plane already "wired" for all the high tech gear.
Before the arrival of "the Bomb" they figured the war in the Pacific would last into 1947-48....
