Zorro this photo was taken in Building 6, the experimental hangar. It had to be very late 44 or 45, as the building was completed in June of 44 but didn't open till August due to concrete issues in the floor.

F4U Folks:

Good day!

While most likely the "#721" poss indicated the last 3 digits of its Buno, it's puzzling for a Vought aircraft to have that number stenciled at that location. Can someone think of a reason in an experimental hangar to have that # at that location? Has anyone seen such # in other F4U photos?

if you do plz upload. I'd like to compare some notes! Tks

p.s Yesss I see a poss ghost figure at location. Is he also trying to say something??

I'm quite sure those numbers are the last three of the s/n but not completely sure. Not my area of expertise. Not sure what is actually lol. What I can say is that photo is one of my favorite shots of a corsair, something about it even with the ghost standing next to it.

Given Chance Vought - Stratford was a civilian plant and this is a easily accessible hangar, whats the general consensus on the rockets. Real? Dummies? The guns do not appear to be installed. Better question that I have wondered, When/Where were the weapons installed? After acceptance by the military? in the field?

Mark:

Good day!

Tks! great info with that pic also!

I can see "378" clearly at the bottom of the R/wing tip. Pic prob taken at CT factory c. 1944. Poss An F4U-1A with early WW II markings.

There are couple of BWs pics out there of the same era with fuselage stencils & markings. Nice Job with the ghost guy. That is indeed a great picture.

p.s Whar does the caption says?? Will you plz post a close up of the number only?? Tks
