So my wife, & I are driving south om I-85 near Auburn AL., & I see this plane off in the distance, I tell my wife "look that's a B-17"!
A little further down the road, I get a real good look; a B-17 gear down landing, comes right across the hwy in front of us. I'm like" holly crap that looks like 909". So I get down here to Pensacola, fire up the laptop, start doing a search for a B-17 in Auburn, & there ya go, Jim & his folks had a stop there. I would have turned around, went back & visited had I known for sure what airplane it was.
Sad time here, we are down in Pensacola to attend Keith Hibbett's service over onboard NAS Pensacola tomorrow. I have been really feeling bad about loosing my old friend, but seeing that B-17 flying right over our car really put a smile on my face!
Jim you guys be safe!

I thought I would post a couple of Jim and our buddy Wayne (who used to be the tour mechanic) having some fun earlier this year. These were taken from the B-24.

Kinda funny how these particular airplanes weave in and out of peoples lives...I saw them in 94 at KAKR, then at KCAK in 98, took a ride on 909 then and didn't see them again until I started flying with them in 2003. So its stories like Robbies that really mean a lot...out of the blue...there they are. If I've said it once, or a thousand times, this is really cool to be apart of...

More absolutely CRACKING! photos. :supz: Thanks guys.

The human element of these stories gives it such substance. Thanks for sharing.

N210D, now known as Sarah Jean, is the P-51 that I was lucky enough to hop a ride in years ago. Another little connection

Here's one from 2008, but still one of my favorites.

Image

One other personal element that includes 210D, is that it is the second Mustang I've gotten to fly in, but also the first and to my knowledge the only D model that Jim has gotten to fly from the front seat. In fact, he flew her earlier on the morning of our photo flight in which the other images were taken.

To throw one more personal element in, I've gotten to do or be on 3 official air to air photo missions. Betty Jane has managed to be the subject matter in all 3. Not a bad subject to have if I say so myself! Jim did a great job and made it easy on the last two flights.
