But the fuselage in front is a PT22, ST-A and STM airframes do not have a baggage compartment.
By the way Kyleb, it will not be too long before new ST-As are once again available...

What's gonna be under the cowling?

I've known it was still there, but apparently the widow wasn't willing to sell at what was being offered. I guess we'll find out the true value shortly...

The photo in post #6 is one which I shot in the summer of 91, when my buddy Simon and I went to see the 51 and meet Ken. That is him on the wing with a big smile. Very nice guy who let us clamber all over the Mustang and get photos.

To Marine Air: Lake Air Corp. was the company Al Alson (formerly of Aero Enterprises) kept going with after he and James Morton split up their partnership. I am not sure however if this is an ex- Canadian airframe. Alson/ Morton also bought 51s from within the continental US.

I wonder if this is the one that sat on the ramp in 1966 when I learned how to fly there that year, always wondered what happened to it.

The last time I saw that bird was in 83 and it hasn't moved. Wow.

Any reason why certain tail numbers would appear to be near sequential with civilian Mustangs?

Curious as Billy used to tell all sorts of amazing stories about his ownership "back in the day."

I know the guy running the auction - very fair to deal with; he handles the Los Angeles County probate auctions so this is right up his alley. Once the plane is sold at the auction, the high bid will go to court for approval - if this works like the house auctions in L.A., once the high bidder goes before the judge, the judge will ask for further bids. Once that bidding's done, or if nobody else is there to outbid, the judge will most likely give his approval for the sale.

Should be interesting to see who shows up for this one.

I'll guess $850k

I would say 850k might be a little high but not much. To get it flying I guess at least 1 mil on top of the 850k but never know till the restoration starts. Deep pockets.
