There's some Tory and Fascist and Democrat planes buried there, too. And perhaps a Labour plane or two as well.

That they didn't have anyone who could proofread, for one thing.

Thank you! :drink3:
Just one of my little pet peeves. Even movies and TV substitute "Nazis" for "Germans" now.

If no planes are found buried there in Indiana, perhaps they could try Burma!

I understand they are all ready to fly too. Once you are done digging pull up the fuel truck and go....

Funny thing, we went to a open house for my niece's Christian school (that's a key point, you see why in a moment) a couple of years ago and they had a deal where groups of kids were representing different nations like a mini world's fair of sorts.
I got to the Germany table, and every book was about WW2, several swastikas and all. I looked at a teacher and said, "Uh, I know they pulled the only books on Germany out of the library for this, but you know this is offensive for Germans today, right?"
The teacher just shrugged and mumbled something about Germans had no right to complain about anything in that regard.

Lou Thole (author of the Forgotten Fields series of books) and I were the first to stick a shovel in the ground there in the late 80's. Lou and I made the first presentation to the city fathers regarding the potential material culture there and how it could be disposed of once located.

I interviewed the son of the last of the bulldozer drivers and he told me that his dad had often told the story of digging a hole at the end of a taxiway and pushing a Stuka into it and running it over with the dozer.

I found the catalog for the holdings at Freeman in the USAF Museum archives when it was still in the main museum building. Just about one of everything the bad guys and our allies had relating to flight was in the catelog. One odd thing I remember was Mobile Luftwaffe Dentist Office...

The Freeman operation actually gave birth to the USAF Museum in Dayton. Hap Arnold decided the AAF needed a museum and thought since all those plane were already there that Freeman would be an ideal location. The City Fathers of Seymour said, "No Way". So it was decided to locate the museum at Wright-Patterson.

As pointed out in the article many of the planes were farmed out to Museums and industry. I do know that several main components of the V-1 and V-2 rockets were found at the local scrap yard.

We concentrated our very early efforts at a rail siding where one of the dozer drivers indicated they dumped rail car loads of material. We hit water at about two inches!
