This thread has me wondering... how many ex-racing warbirds (Mustangs and others) are preserved in their air race livery? Just to keep the "olde tyme" flavor, let's not include those that are currently or were recently active.

As for preserved racers how about Clay Lacy's Mustang and Conquest 1. I don't know if it raced but I think Mike Coutches has or had a bright yellow Bearcat N818 (?).

For info on Conquest 1, check out Warbird Digest #48. Didn't Lacy recently fly the Purple People Eater at Reno?

Clay did have his Mustang at Reno, but it was the first time it was flown in 9 years or so. Also same paint scheme it has had since it raced. I hope not but it could be another decade before we see it again.
