This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

When LSFM finishes their PB4Y-2* with the turrets etc. we'll have that part of the history represented. It would be a shame to reverse engineer the mods the Coasties carried out and wipe-out the bit of identity she sported in her 15 years of USCG life.

Wrong engines, of course, but steady as you go, all in good time.

What about the Yanks Privateer? While we may never see it fly, she'll probably be finished in WWII bomber configuration. Where are the other Privateers btw?

That would be quite okay, too. I'd love to see a restored airtanker traveling the air show circuit with a nice historical display that showcases the dangerous, necessary work these aircraft and their brave pilots have done over several decades of service. It would be cool for them to do a test drop (plain water) during the air show -- perhaps even on a small, controlled fire -- to show the public how it's done.

I remember watching one of H&P's Super Privateers do a water drop at an aishow back in the early 80s. Pretty spectacular!

There was a PZL Dromadar doing a water drop demo at OSH in the 80's too. Impressive

The H&P -4ys appeared in Porterville Ca, back in the mid to late 90s, maybe the summer of '96 or '97. I thought it was really cool to see the -4Ys in person. I think I've got pics somewhere.
Its good to see one still flying.

To go back a couple days about restorations. After seeing restorations like Jerry Yagen's FM-2, FG-1D now with VWoC, Taigh's PV-1, and McKenna's P-51 I have become a very big fan of aircraft being restored to what they looked like as they rolled off the factory floor. Completely stock, no special markings, nothing except a fresh paint job and national insignia.
No matter how it is finished it will be great to see a flying Privateer.
