Part Identification - Harvard Exhaust Pipe?

Sat Sep 21, 2013 11:46 pm

Found this exhaust pipe for a P&W engine among our supply stock at the Chanute Air Museum. It fits our AT-6B, but the exhaust opening points to the rear. The only markings on the unit is a small number 75 in a diamond stamped into the unit.
My own research leads me to believe this unit is for a Harvard equipped with the long tailpipe that runs back over the wing, along the fuselage side. It appears to have never been installed and is in good condition except for a little surface rust.
Any help with identification is appreciated.

If this is, in fact, a Harvard unit, we'll offer it up to trade for parts needed for our AT-6B static restoration.

That little stub in the front of the outlet is a giveaway. that is the fresh air inlet for the Harvard cockpit heater muff I think.

Yep, Harvard exhaust collector. The hole where it bends towards the rear is for the heat exchanger tube.
It looks like it had a smoke system installed as well due to the nozzle fittings welded in.

I believe they are fittings for the exhaust gas analyzer that was on many of the T-6 family.

That makes a lot more sense. :)

I knew the experts here would be able to I.D. this pipe. Some of the stock parts we have here reportedly come from the Univ. of Illinois, when their aviation department cleaned house before closing down. I'm guessing they had a surplus Harvard or two at some point.

If I have it right, this would be 66-42002-34 Collector - Weld Assy. - Engine Exhaust for Mk2/Mk2a/Harvard 4 according to EO-05-55A-4 Illustrated Parts List (RCAF).

Thanks for the confirmation guys!
