What you're looking at there is Ed Maloney's crew prepping their newly acquired surplus FG-1Ds (BuNo.92132 & 92436) for their trip back to the Air Museum in Clermont, CA. Must have been nice to have your pick from row upon row of freshly retired aircraft, for pennies on the dollar.

F4U Folks:

Good day!

Tks Rob/Chappie for the info & data!

I'm glad to see that they are still around. There are only a few close-ups of these birds at Litchfield Park NAS. Another www shot shows a line-up of FG-1Ds & F4U-4s in the background. I hope to see other close-ups of that incredible place. As far as prices c. 1950s, I'd say there were reasonable for those days. Mr. Bean bought Buno 97280 for around $900.00!

p.s Anyone with pics of F4U-5Ns at Quonset PT NAS, RI c. 1950s plz let me know also!!
Tks.

The interesting Litchfield Park NAS c. 1955! Photo SDAM/AEC. Take a pick!!

p.s The note says mostly FG-1Ds fm Navy Reserve Units. It looks like an aerial view of this unique place. I hope to see some other angles of it! Tks.
