How he ended up or not ended up during his final days is not as important as to what he did during his life time to save all those F4Us c.1950s. Love to know where he learned to fly & if he had military training along the way!! Poss some relatives still around may come up with some info on these gaps.

Did you have any luck finding the Bob Bean photos!

I first read it in Air Classics, pretty sure anyway. Is it an urban legend?

Ironically our AC friend is the one that wrote an article about F4Us & him at Moseley Field AZ. Don't know exactly who the sources are or were of such a story. c. 1980s.

p.s Found a small pic of him not in Corsair but closing the canopy on a P-38. I'll dig for it. How the man ended-up at the end of his earthly existence is not as important as to what he did along the way!

Possibly not, but interesting to some nonetheless.

I was good friends with Ernie Moseley in high school and used to let his dad borrow the various magazines that I had with articles about Bob Bean and the aircraft stored at Moseley field. I wish I had spent more time talking to him about Bean and the various warbirds that they stored. Unfortunately Ernie was killed in the crash of one of their Kaman Huskies and I have not been in touch with any of the family since the funeral. They still have a duster strip not too far from where I live but I do not know if they do any flying any more. I know they shut down the business and got rid of the Kamans and, I think, the crop dusters as well but they did have a few other private aircraft.

Very odd article to publish for the 1980s. Still nice that he helped in a massive way saving these aircraft

Evidently Mr.Bob Bean knew his way about flying diff aircraft. The pic below captures a poss Mr. Bob Bean delivering a recently restored P-47 to WW II ace Robert S. Johnson of Republic Aviation c. 1957. Other data of a poss Maj. Robert Bean places him as AAF a cadet in TX c. 1943. Photo AF Museum Files.
