Czech air force museum at Kbely , you can get the bus , i got a taxi if i remember correctly it's closed mondays .They do have a good collection .i think there is a spit 9 in the history museum next to Wenceslas square , still worth a visit though without the spit .If you like your beer try U Medvidku they have some great beer and food

The Narodni Technical Museum in Prague has two extraordinaily rare aircraft:

The LWF (Lane, Willard and Fowler) Model V - a AMERICAN MADE WWI AIRCRAFT THAT MAY HAVE A COMBAT RECORD (probably the only aircraft meeting that descriptionin the world!). (may have been used in Russia)

and, similarly, an Anatra DS - a RUSSIAN MADE WWI AIRCRAFT WITH A LIKELY COMBAT RECORD.

also a Knoller C.II, perhaps not as rare as the above, but how many Austro-Hungarian WWI aircraft have you had opportunity to see.

The museum also has unique trains and automobiles.

We just returned from Prague and I recommend it highly. The Mrs and I rode the subway to Kbely Airfield to visit the "Letecké Muzeum Kbely". I put a sampling of photos at this link:

In short, a fantastic collection with some very unique airframes that the average Westerner doesn't come across on a regular basis. The designs based on the Bf-109 and Me-262 were also highlights. For anyone who is a real Soviet aircraft buff, there were 7 or 8 MiG-21s and a similar number of -17s and -19s; all sorts of different canopies, armament, radar domes, etc. Although I studied the basics as an AF pilot I never got into the individual model variants; but a real buff would love this collection.

The display hangars are immaculate, while the outdoor statics look like they could use some love. There was a small fenced compound with at least a dozen airframes in storage, including more MiG-21s under tarps. A satellite image will reveal another dozen or so airlift-sized airplanes just outside the display fence that I could not see a way to access - maybe it's a work in progress? All in all a 9/10 in my book ... plus they serve beer.

I figured there'd at least be a discussion on the S-199 change in tire orientation from the Bf-109.

Thanks for the photos Ken, they look great! What a nice collection, I found the FW190 QEC especially intriguing.

Thanks for sharing the report and photos Ken. As a big Me-262 fan I especially noted the two Me-262/S-92 aircraft on display. I believe they are technically Avia S-92 and Avia CS-92 (two seater). I note the two seater in your photos seems to be in German markings, but other pictures on the web show the two seater from this collection outside and in Czec markings. Wonder when they did a repaint? I guess German marking would gather more interest to the general public than a model that only served briefly in Czec service.

I thought I recalled reading somewhere that the dozen or so Avia S-92 models were likely built up from left over german Me-262 bits? Wonder how much was new built and if the Jumo engines were also left overs, or were improved somewhat?

Repainted in 2009 to represent a wrecked single seater 'Black A' of JG 7 found at Zatec Airfield just outside of Prague at wars end.
