Richard & Rob, both those photo sets are simply breathtaking. Speaking as a lifelong photography enthusiast as well as aircraft enthusiast, you do full justice to both!

Great photos, so many great planes...the P-40s, Mustangs, and Corsairs all looked great.
I've never seen the CAF B-24 (or should I say C-87?) look better. Great interior details on the TBM (or is it the SBD?), good to see they're getting more respect. I can remember 30 years ago when surplus firebombers were everywhere here in the West and very cheap.
And I'm especially happy that there is a USAF-marked HU-16 out there. A lot of service members were killed flying those while trying to help others (in both Vietnam and long before). It's good to see them remembered.

Uhm... John....... please use B-24A! Lololo.... If Gary were still around, I know he would have re-educated you on that point..... Thank you for the compliment on "Lil"..... Had Gary not begun that project to convert her back to her original configuration as she rolled off the assembly line....well, we know that story....... Hats off to crew chiefs Rick and Don, and all of the volunteers who keep making "Lil" look just a little better every time you see her...... Then, in their spare time they have a C-45 (Bucket of Bolts) and some other little lady named "FIFI" to keep airworthy! Great job guys!

Never was a C-87, so it wouldn't be appropriate anyway. It externally looks similar to the C-87, but that was a B-24D base. This is a B-24A/LB-30B with extensive modifications. Then again, by that token we shouldn't be calling the Collings airplane a "B-24J" since was delivered to the RAF as a Liberator.VII and never saw USAAF service.

CAPFlyer, you make a point, alright. Maybe best to just call 'em by what they're supposed to represent when you see 'em (as if that idea will fly...). In the case Ol' 927, it's simply not anything, really ... or if you must nail it down, it's a factory-built one-off perpetual prototype that is loosely referred to as a B-24 for lack of a better way of putting it, and to keep things streamlined.

I love that airplane!

One day they flew Sully & Skiles out to Lake Winnebago in Jim Slattery's PBY - ostensibly so they could make one take off to even the score with their one water landing...

Steve Hinton flew a nice routing in Jim's Tigercat as well:
