Looking closely at the photos, I think I also see Gilligan's hat.

Now everyone, let us not be cynical, and consider the facts. It IS an island in the south pacific. There are footprints. There are two ships in the pics. Now what more proof could you possibly want? I bet Richard could even take the piece of shoe he found and make it match...er....well....you would have to take into consideration the fact that his shoe is the wrong size, but we must quit confusing things with facts! :P

Looks like an excuse to take a vacation in New Zealand on your benefactor's dime.

That pretty much explains it for me. I can sleep better tonight.....

A "landing gear" (sure looks like one to me) and footprints (who else had feet in the South Pacific other than Fred and Amelia?), a partial skeleton believed to be female (the only female in the Pacific in the 1930s seemed to be her). That pretty well takes care of the mystery.

When Stephen Pitcarin flew the autogyro to OSH in 1986, I was there. I stood by him one afternoon and listened to him recall events he'd witnessed in the early days of aviation. One was about Amelia, apparently she was supposed to have flown an autogyro and landed in a baseball field between innings. He said she piled it up in the parking lot.... (I did a quick search and she had 3 autogyro crashes and none seem to match the one he described) Steve said "She was destined to kill someone and Fred Noonan ended up being that guy", 27 years later I can still hear those words.

Well at least she was at the opening of the airport in Canastota NY back in 1928. Cool place, I spent a lot of time there in the early and mid 1960s.

TIGHAR... What a bunch of lucky guys. It simply amazes me that every time they turn over a rock they seem to find some trace of Amelia or some other lost artifact. They seem to confirm what PT Barnum said about a sucker born every minute. If only Indiana Jones did so well. Even Babe Ruth didn't hit a home run every time he stepped up to the plate.

Me. I'm keeping up my search for her... I figure she'll be in Oshkosh this year just like everyone else. After all, she'd only be 116 years old......

What's remarkable about these photos is, if you squint just right, you can see the sun glinting off the makeup cream bottle in one of those shots.

Seriously- the photos are interesting in and of themselves, but come on people. If TIGHAR were serious about solving the disappearance of Amelia, they'd be looking into deep-sea scanning equipment.

I always wonder how people- educated, wealthy people- would buy off on this nonsense. But the other day, my youngest son went to a shop near the beach and bought a small treasure chest- made in China of course. Knowing how his dad is always searching for rare and unusual things (warbird parts) he asked me with an eager look in his eye that if I ever run across a real one, to get it for him.

TIGHAR capitalizes on the part of all of us that is entertained by Indiana Jones and National Treasure-type movies. We all know that there is something out there, and the right person, at the right time, with the right financing, could find it. If someone carefully poses and crafts their image as this type of person, with an ever- serious look in their eye and steel in their voice, the checkbooks spring open magically.

It is just a shame that so many people are exploited this way.

Weekend? Oshkosh? That would be TOM you're thinking of.

Oshkosh runs pretty-much the month of July and a lil' chunk of August (Actually, Airventure camping starts this weekend).

Heck, even Party Wagstaff is coming back, and her picture is still on the wall at the post office.

Yes, Mark H. is correct: If AE is still kicking, she'll be kicking it large at KOSH. :supz: :drink3: :supz:

Except P.T. Barnum never used that phrase. It was used by one of his detractors. Barnum believed that the customer should "receive value for his money". He would be appalled at the charade TIGHAR uses to fund their travels.

Cool... Never heard the "value for his money" line. I may start using that one....
