This is the longest shot in history. Sept 1944 the 5th Ftr Squadron, Mediterranean Theater of Ops. lost a P-51 ditched in the Adriatic Sea under unusual circumstances. Pilot survived - treated in British then U.S Army Field Hospitals then Bari, Italy General Hospital. Cannot find record of lost aircraft or that one went missing. Need serial number of the bird and any other available essential information. Need to close this case despite the many years that have passed. Official records have not been helpful. Pilot letters home mention a shoot-down. Could be flak, E.A, Vessel launched projectiles.Pilot may have been where he should not have been. Who knows? 6/15/2013
