This year the Warbirds Living History Group joins the Texas Flying Legends Museum for a D-Day re-enactment. Members will paint invasion stripes and nose art on the TFLM's C-53 (transport version of the DC-3/C-47) Monday starting at 10 a.m., re-enacting D-Day invasion preparations of June 1944. Nose art from the C-53 Duchess of Dakota will be painted on while the re-enactors paint the stripes. During World War II, Murray Lawler named his aircraft in honor of his wife Margaret. We will welcome Margaret Lawler to Oshkosh with "her" aircraft.

Fingers crossed they do it nice and sloppy with imperfect lines.

Neat to see all the emphasis on the true "legends" attending. :drink3:

I have access to a Beech Duchess and might fly up from Florida, if any other pilots are interested and live along the straight line from Gainesville to Oshkosh and would like to fly, we can split the gas. I'd love to do the camping under the wing thing. If I do go, it would be my first time and I'll go for a few days. Would like to make an adventure of it, I figure $1,200 for the gas round trip, but then again I might jumpseat up there and get a rental car.

Nice extra plug for Taigh & his merry band of left coasters:

http://www.airventure.org/news/2013/130 ... rrive.html

EAA muffed a little on the "only PV-2D variant left out of 35 built", as Cavanaugh still has BuNo 84060 in storage. But are any of the other original 35 Ds still hanging in there somewhere?
