Warbird Information Exchange

I've been watching this thread with interest. There are a lot of them out there. If you really want to know, spend some time on the Warbird Registry. I can name a few off the top of my head but don't really feel comfortable doing so. In my mind, those that died in these aircraft were flying them for a reason, whether it was combat or post combat. Personally I think it is a great thing that they are still out there and flying...teaching and inspiring a younger generation.

I had been wanting to ask this for a while now, and just now got around to it. As I said before, it was the Do 17 post that finally motivated me to ask it. However, that reminder was a double-edged sword because it also motivated me to include my personal feelings on the issue. When I was writing the original post I was debating whether or not to include them because I was worried that something like this might happen. It seems as though I was not unfounded in my concern. Seeing as I always prefer full disclosure (or more specifically stating all my thoughts on a topic - as I am doing now), I decided in favor of including my opinions as an aside. I did a bad job of indicating that my main intent with this topic was to simply create a list of fatality-related aircraft and not to bring about a large debate on the morality of the topic - although I did welcome a small side discussion in the form of a sentence or two on the issue. (When writing the original post, I considered including something at the end like, "But I digress..." and then restating the question to refocus the discussion, but I opted against it.) I apologize for any difficulties I may have caused. My personal belief is that there isn't any warbird related topic, no matter how contentious, that cannot be discussed in a civilized manner, and that is why I don't refrain from posting on very serious issues.

EDIT: I almost forgot, it was also not my intent to pass judgement on anyone who has restored an aircraft that has had a fatality occur in it. I was only stating my own feelings. In regards to what Mark pointed out: I also had not considered that it may not even be appropriate to make such a list, or that it would be disrespectful in and of itself, thanks for pointing that out. I'll defer to wiser judgement and consider my original request retracted if it is felt to be the better option.

Hi Noha, your fine in asking anything you like IMO, just be ready for responses from many different directions and many different opinions, and with a little thick skin sometimes a requirement. (a lesson I'm still learning ) Also be prepared for those who like to take the conversation in directions other than what you intended, as that happens here all the time. But not to worry as you have good intentions and that I know for certain. I'm not the authority on what is or is not appropriate to ask here on WIX, as I don't own the place, but I'm sure the powers that be will inform you of that if necessary. apologies if I came across too strong (I tend to be that way sometimes lol)

You ask some good and legitimate questions. Good for you and keep it up. You'll get your answers one way or the other around here.
