One of my father's most vivid childhood memories was waking up the morning of June 6th (he was in Brooklyn), hearing on the radio that the invasion was underway, and heading to his elementary school to share the news with his fellow students

Don't forget that the final stages of a pivotal battle out in the Pacific Ocean near a small, obscure island called Midway happened during this date 71 years ago!

Yes! It was all downhill for the Japanese navy after that. So many brave pilots were lost during that battle and we can never forget their sacrifices either.

Yes indeed correct. The History channel has been history for me for years now.

This photo below has to be one of the most stirring photos I have seen regarding the Battle of Midway.


All fifteen of Torpedo Eight's TBDs as they depart for their attack on 4 June 1942, none would return. All crews lost except Ens. George Gay. Notice F4F top cover.


I met George Gay at Oshkosh many years ago, had to be one of the nicest men I ever met. A class act all the way.
